The AskElephant MCP

AskElephant connects directly to Claude, ChatGPT, and other MCP-compatible AI tools through Model Context Protocol. Once connected, your team can search AskElephant meetings from their chat window without switching tabs. Existing AskElephant permissions are enforced through the connection.

Key Terms

Model Context Protocol (MCP) — a standard for connecting AskElephant to other AI chat platforms. It's a bridge that lets your team use AskElephant's search inside Claude, ChatGPT, and similar tools.

MCP server — the AskElephant connection point that external tools authenticate against. You don't manage it; we run it.

OAuth 2.1 — a secure login standard. When you connect AskElephant to Claude or ChatGPT, OAuth handles the authentication automatically.

Internal search tool — AskElephant's search. Through MCP, it's available in the connected chat tool.

Permissions — the level of access a team member has. Through MCP, each person only sees meetings they already have access to in AskElephant.

What This Is Good For

  • Quick lookups — finding a meeting or piece of context while you're already chatting in Claude or ChatGPT.

  • Convenience — staying in the chat tool for lightweight searches.

  • Supplemental context — pulling meeting details into a broader conversation or brainstorm.

For deeper workflows — deal health, forecasting, coaching, handoff documents — use AskElephant directly.

Before You Start

  • You need owner or admin access to set up the connection in Claude or ChatGPT.

  • Your team members need AskElephant accounts.

  • Team members log in via OAuth 2.1 the first time they toggle the connection on.

How Setup Works

Admins and owners configure the MCP server connection once in Claude or ChatGPT for the whole workspace. Individual team members then toggle the connection on in their chat tool. The first time, they're prompted to authenticate via OAuth 2.1 — they log in to their AskElephant account and the connection is live.

Once connected, team members access the internal search tool and see exactly what they already have access to in AskElephant. Permissions carry over.

The MCP Server URL

All platforms connect to the same server. You'll need this URL when configuring any of them:

https://app.askelephant.ai/mcp

When a platform asks for an MCP server URL, use this one. The OAuth flow guides you through the login.

Permissions and Security

What can connected users access? Exactly what they can access in AskElephant — nothing more, nothing less. If they can't see a meeting in AskElephant, they can't see it through MCP. This can't be bypassed.

Privacy. Privacy and data access controls are enforced through the MCP server the same way they're enforced in AskElephant.

Is it read-only? Yes. Connected users can search and retrieve, but they can't edit AskElephant data through MCP. All edits happen in AskElephant.

Is it secure? The connection uses OAuth 2.1. Authentication runs over encrypted channels and access is controlled by AskElephant's permission system.

Setup for Claude

Step 1: Open Connectors in Settings

  4. In the top-right corner, toggle to Organization connectors.

Step 2: Add the Custom Connector

Only organization owners (not admins or managers) can complete this step.

  1. Click Add custom connector at the bottom of the page.

  2. Enter a name, for example AskElephant or Internal Search.

  3. In Remote MCP Server URL, enter https://app.askelephant.ai/mcp.

  4. Click Add.

Other Supported Platforms

AskElephant MCP works with 12+ AI platforms. Setup is similar on each — connect to the same MCP server URL. Supported platforms include:

  • Claude Code

  • Claude Desktop

  • Cursor

  • Gemini CLI

  • GitHub Copilot

  • Inspector

  • LibreChat

  • MCP Jam

  • Replit

  • VS Code Copilot

For platform-specific instructions, check the platform's documentation.

Troubleshooting

I don't see the connector option in Claude. You likely don't have the right access level. Check with your workspace owner.

A team member wasn't prompted to log in. The MCP server connection probably didn't fully activate on their end. Have them toggle the connection off and back on in their chat tool — the OAuth login prompt should appear.

A team member can't see certain meetings through MCP. This is working as intended. MCP enforces AskElephant permissions. They only see meetings they have access to in AskElephant. If they should have access, check their permissions in AskElephant directly.

Next Steps

  1. Configure the connection in Claude or ChatGPT (start with one and expand later).

  2. Share with your team — give them the name of the connector you set up.

  3. Team members log in — OAuth handles it the first time they activate.

  4. Use it for convenience — quick lookups inside a chat you're already in.

  5. Use AskElephant directly for deeper insights like deal health, forecasting, and coaching.
