Microsoft 365 Permissions

Overview

AskElephant needs no special Microsoft 365 permissions to work. This article covers the few cases where Microsoft may prompt for access, what to check before you grant it, and how to make sure the Notetaker can join your Teams meetings.

What AskElephant Requires

AskElephant does not require any Microsoft 365 permissions for its core features. You can record and process meetings, run workflows, and use the app without granting tenant-level access.

Microsoft may prompt for limited access only when you turn on an optional integration:

  • Calendar connection. Connecting your calendar requests read access to your profile and calendar so AskElephant can show your meetings and schedule the Notetaker.

  • Sign-in. Signing in with Microsoft uses your basic profile (name and email) to identify your account.

These are narrow, read-only scopes. AskElephant does not request write access to your mailbox, files, or tenant settings.

If your organization uses enterprise single sign-on through Microsoft Entra ID, see the Single Sign-On (SSO) article.

If Microsoft shows an admin consent screen when someone connects AskElephant, your IT or security team can review it first. Confirm that the requested scopes are limited to profile and calendar access, not full tenant or directory access. Grant consent once your team is satisfied the scopes match what the integration needs.

Letting the Notetaker Join Teams Meetings

The AskElephant Notetaker joins a Teams meeting as an external guest. If your meetings require every attendee to sign in with a Microsoft account, the Notetaker can be held in the lobby or blocked.

To let it join automatically, allow guests to join without a Microsoft login for the meetings you want recorded. You can set this per meeting or as a default meeting policy. If a meeting includes external attendees, this also lets them join without signing in.

Requesting Security Documentation

For SOC 2, HIPAA, or other compliance documentation, see the Trust Center and Compliance article, which explains how to request access and who to contact.
