Weekly Workflow: Local Company Scrape

Overview

The Local Company Scrape workflow automatically uncovers nearby businesses similar to your target accounts. Whenever a new meeting is created, AskElephant gathers the company name and domain, performs a web search, and identifies up to five similar companies located within 100 miles and in the same industry.

Key Terms

  • Workflow: An automated sequence of actions that runs when a specific event occurs (also called a "recipe")

  • Trigger: The event that starts the workflow—in this case, the creation of a new meeting

  • CRM: Your customer relationship management system (HubSpot or Salesforce) used to exclude existing customers from scrape results

  • Threaded message: A Slack message grouped under a parent post so multiple results don't clutter the channel

What This Workflow Does

When a new meeting is created, the workflow pulls the company name and domain, searches the web for similar businesses nearby, and delivers a clean list to Slack. It also:

  • Validates company locations before listing them

  • Excludes any organizations that already exist as customers in your CRM (HubSpot or Salesforce)

  • Delivers the final list of companies directly to Slack, threaded neatly under one message to avoid clutter

The workflow runs automatically for your selected team members, giving you quick, location-based prospect insights without manual research.

How to Set It Up

Step 1: Navigate to Recipes

  • Log into AskElephant and click Automations in the left sidebar navigation.

  • In the Workflows tab click New Workflow

  • Select From Recipe

Step 2: Find the Workflow

Search for Local Company Scrape in the recipes library.

Step 3: Choose your CRM Version

Select the version that matches your CRM: HubSpot or Salesforce. The workflow uses this to filter out companies that already exist as customers.

Step 4: Configure the Trigger

In the New Meeting trigger, set the workflow to run for the correct people or teams.

Step 5: Review Search Parameters

Review the company search parameters (distance, industry, exclusions) and adjust any values that should differ for your territory.

Step 6: Pick your Output Destination

Decide how you want the output delivered—Slack DM, Slack channel, or email. The workflow threads messages automatically so your Slack stays organized.

Step 7: Enable the Workflow

  • Click the three dots in the top right of the workflow bar

  • Select Activate Workflow to turn it on for your workspace

Why This Workflow Is Useful

Instant territory awareness

Reps see similar companies in their territory the moment a meeting is created, without running manual searches.

Avoids conflicts with existing customers

Because the workflow checks your CRM, it only surfaces new prospects and never suggests accounts your team already owns.

Keeps Slack organized

All results for a given meeting are threaded under a single parent message, so channels don't get buried in scrape output.

Expands pipeline with minimal effort

Teams that want more territory awareness or regional expansion get a steady feed of nearby lookalike accounts without adding research time to their week.

Conclusion

The Local Company Scrape workflow turns every new meeting into a regional prospecting opportunity. Enable it today and your team will start receiving location-based lookalike lists automatically.
