Overview

The Search People Node is a built-in AskElephant feature that lets you find and pull team member information into your workflows—without being limited to people already connected to a specific object like a meeting or calendar event. Whether you need to send information to a specific group, pull contact details, or trigger actions based on team members, this node gives you the flexibility to work with the right people at the right time.

What Is the Search People Node?

The Search People Node comes standard with every AskElephant subscription. It's designed to solve a common workflow challenge: most workflows are restricted to referencing only people associated with the object you're working with (like attendees of a meeting or participants in a conversation). The Search People Node breaks that limitation, allowing you to bring in team members from anywhere in your workspace.

This is especially useful when you need to:

  • Reference team members who weren't part of the original object or interaction
  • Pull contact information for downstream workflow actions
  • Send information to specific groups or individuals
  • Trigger additional actions based on team member data

How to Configure the Search People Node

The Search People Node offers three flexible configuration options, so you can tailor your search exactly how you need it:

Option 1: Select Specific Groups

Choose one or more groups from your workspace. This is ideal when you want to pull all members from particular departments or teams—for example, selecting your entire Sales or Success teams at once.

Option 2: Select Individual People

Pick specific team members by name. Use this when you need to work with a targeted list of people.

Option 3: Exclude Specific Users

Combine group selection with exclusions. For instance, you might select an entire group but exclude a few specific people within that group. This ensures you're only pulling the information you actually need.

What Information Does the Search People Node Return?

Once configured, the Search People Node creates a set of output variables that you can use throughout your workflow. Here's what you'll have access to:

Output Variable
What It Contains
Contacts
A complete list of all people included in the search
Contact Emails
All email addresses of the people included in the search
Contact Names
The names of all people included in the search
First Contact Result
The first person returned from the search
First Contact Result Email
The email address of the first person in the results
First Contact Result Name
The name of the first person in the results

These variables can be referenced in other actions within your workflow, making it easy to send information, pull data, or trigger follow-up actions.

Common Use Cases

  • Send bulk information: Use the Contacts variable to send a message or document to multiple team members at once.
  • Pull meeting data: Reference specific team members to retrieve their calendar or meeting information.
  • Route actions to the right people: Use the First Contact Result variables to automatically direct tasks or information to a particular person.
  • Create dynamic workflows: Build workflows that adapt based on the team members you search for.

How to Edit or Delete the Search People Node

Once you've added the Search People Node to your workflow, you can easily modify or remove it:

  • Edit the node name: Select the node, click the pencil icon next to "Configurations," and enter a new name.
  • Delete the node: Select the node, click the three dots menu, and choose "Delete."
